When people talk about the Queen's Wharf project, they often call it 'the new casino' in a slightly condescending way. This has always baffled me since the casino will only use less than 5% of the total area. Most will be residential buildings, stores, bars & restaurants, and a big high platform that'll be accessible to the public and from where many Brisbanites will enjoy sunsets. Sure, the casino plays an important part, especially as a financial motivation, but it's only one bit of the whole thing and actually not what most people will see and use at the precinct. Another thing is that the surrounding streets will be developed further, including some very old buildings, e.g. William Street is about to become a nice evening walk. My point is, of course criticism is legitimate (such as the lack of transparency at the beginning, or you might not like other aspects of the plan), but I feel that the project is being misunderstood by many people. Any idea where this comes from? Miscommunication? Unfortunate media reporting? I'm curious!
Hey guys, here are some recent job openings in ca. Feel free to comment here or send me a private message if you have any questions, I'm at the community's disposal! If you encounter any problems with any of these job openings please let me know that I will modify the table accordingly. Thanks!
As if the Queens Wharf project wasn't enough of a ripoff in terms of genuine public amenity, they have now reduced the size of the parklands
This casino project is just so bad compared to Barangaroo (massive public greenspace on the most expensive land in Australia). Bugger all greenspace considering the size of the sight. Now they reduced that further. Its basically concrete and glass all over. They even ignored the State Govt Guidelines to attenuate the REX. All in a secret deal involving public land. Brisbane deserves better than this.
The crisis not only destroys, but also provides new opportunities for development. This is exactly what is happening now in Brisbane, where 4 new towers are being built. The Brisbane Times reports the new towers are part of the $3.6 billion privately owned Queen’s Wharf resort and casino development. For three years, since construction began in early 2017, development has been underground or along the Brisbane River. Now, the precinct’s first four towers – including hotels, private apartments and gaming areas – are materialising between George and William streets. Queen’s Wharf project director Simon Crooks said the next phase would mark the change from when “the people of Brisbane looked down into the buildings and instead, looked into them. The tallest tower is the Queen’s Wharf Residences, which is being built on the corner of Margaret and George streets. The next two towers facing South Bank will house Star’s five-star Grand Hotel and the casino’s gaming operations. “These two towers make up the river-facing side of the integrated resort and form the platform for the Sky Deck that will sit more than 100 metres above street level,” Mr Crooks said. “These towers will include more than 330 new five-star hotel rooms, along with new gaming facilities to replace the 25-year-old Treasury Casino. The Treasury Casino will close and become a high-end retail centre in the final stages of development. I'm happy that the city of Brisbane will have such an amzing place but meanwhile u can visit my project site and read some morre news about casino's world https://aussiecasino24.com/ https://preview.redd.it/xy06zhf90w051.jpg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4bf7347ed19e01c8c9af18ef7236544952aba861
I don’t know if it’s regret that I’m feeling with working holidays in Australia
I am from Hong Kong. I don’t know if it’s regret that I’m feeling towards doing a working holiday here in Australia. I like traveling. I use Couchsurfing a lot in the past. From the year 2012 when I started a pre college degree and then 2013-2017 for my college degree, I’d been traveling every summer, so with the six times I traveled, one time is 2months in Europe, other 3times 2.5-3.5months in Europe, 1 time Australia+NZ(3months), 1 time US+Europe(3months). This March I turned 25. I worked at a commission based sales job in Hongkong that I really don’t like. I decided to apply for working holidays and I came to the East Coast first where I stayed with a homestay mom that I know from 3years back in Brisbane. I didn’t try hard to look for jobs in the first month(May). I proceeded to go to Airlie Beach, Townsville and eventually Cairns (July) where i got my first job as a hostel manager at the lowest rating hostel (you can easily look that up on booking, com) because my ex boss is Chinese and I am also Hong Kong Chinese hence I got the job. From then on, it was a month of craziness because he taught me all this stuff for four days and afterwards, he proceeded to leave the country to go on vacation with his wife and his kid. And I held the fort for the next ten days. All the while he was annoying and he loves barking orders at me and I held it in cuz at first I thought I knew how to handle him but when he came back all hell broke loose cuz I felt he was unappreciative and he nit picked everything that I did wrong and he also loved making unrealistic demands like after the backpackers cleaned the bathrooms he wanted me to take pictures of all the cleaned bathrooms on a daily basis. I don’t have the best emotional intelligence in the world and I became really nasty to him as he was like the same to me. I left without notice in early August after one month and left for Melbourne. I arrived here and I felt super lonely. It was really cold at that time and I couldn’t make the same relationships with people that I made back when I was in Cairns at the hostel with for example some girls from mainland China which is pretty ironical because if anyone of you knows, Hong Kong people generally dont really have the best affinity with mainland China as culturally we don’t experience the same things in terms of social dynamics, languages, currency, law, etc. But I met a bunch of really great friends in Cairns in contrast to a much more different vibe in Melbourne. And after three or four days of staying in Melbourne, I don’t know what drew me in but I went to the casino, this is when all things good started to decline. I basically lost all the money I made back in Cairns as well as the cash I held at the time. I am also a person with chronic illness with my neck since November 2011, I started using a Southeast Asian herb called kratom that has helped me deal with the my extreme and underdiagnosed calcifications around my neck since Jan 2018 and while I have had much better sleep and am able to function better during the day, I feel pretty reliant on it and I shouldn’t do that because it has addictive substance and maybe it’s because of the dehydration caused by kratom or other factors, I have become pretty antisocial but I gotta say, I also feel like being from Hong Kong and coming to Australia, I don’t know if I should say it’s a mismatch, I feel like I am not a particularly interesting person and I feel like there are big Asian communities out here already that in the eyes of many people, I am not interesting to talk to and I don’t stand out, as opposed to other times when I traveled around Europe, particularly I enjoyed visiting the poorer and less developed underdog Eastern European countries, I felt like from the standpoint of cultural exchange, I am in a happier place. Back to being in Melbourne, I have had two jobs here. One is event setup and packdown such as concerts and the other job I had was a cleaning technician project at a government building. The last work day is probably two weeks ago.. and last week I posted an ad on Gumtree and somebody contacted me about a farmwork opportunity at a dairy farm 7 hours away from Melbourne by public transport (as I don’t have drive and don’t have a car) near the Great Ocean Road. I jumped at the chance but immediately after four days of cow milking shifts (2 shifts a day) I had to go because it was not a good fit for me. My hands felt arthritic still from the job because I washed my hands a lot when the cows’ fecal matter touched my arms. I just couldn’t do it. I don’t regret trying that though and then I decided to come back to Melbourne on Xmas Eve and for the past few days I have felt a sense of loneliness I couldn’t shake out. I don’t like partying and going out for drinks after I have started using and needing kratom. I am feeling reflective about my gambling addiction that I stopped in late November as I banned myself from the casino (I lost everything - around 15000 AUD and this amount did not include any earnings I have received after I started working holidays in Australia it’s my previous savings, I feel lonely also because I don’t feel interested to talk much to a lot of people these days except maybe for talking to a few friends on Facebook messenger which I think is also caused by kratom.right now I just feel bored and empty. I saw tickets to go back home that are cheap relatively in early Jan. I am also thinking of going to Adelaide just to check the city out as a person that I met previously on a roadtrip thru couchsurfing road trip event is gonna drive to Adelaide on the 4th. I am thinking of going back to Brisbane to stay with my previous homestay and try to look for work there in hospitality. But right now I just don’t feel any motivation to look for work in Melbourne. I just feel contemplative and don’t know if I can regret coming here for working holidays. I don’t feel like I have changed much as a person. There are a few life lessons I have learnt with gambling but I don’t know what else I have achieved here. What can I do?
http://i.imgur.com/qsDLVSF.jpg ** Southeast QLD / Northeast NSW / Darling Downs / Wide Bay & Burnett : Cloud spreading throughout the day with light rain developing this afternoon with thunderstorms possible after about 4pm lasting into tonight ** ** Our first trial on Reddit will be online for this setup, so for anyone who hasn't checked it out already.. stay tuned to this space https://www.reddit.com/SouthBrisbaneStorms/ ** Ah.. that smell of Spring is getting closer and closer.. and today we have another potential storm setup to talk about! A cold front and surface trough is currently located on the far western Darling Downs near St George and angles back towards the northwest through Charleville, Blackall and Longreach. Some cloud and patchy rain is developing close to the front and we could well see a line of thunderstorms develop along the actual front itself later this afternoon. The Access model that I was talking about yesterday has ramped up this afternoon and tonight's potential quite considerably on this morning's run and paints a nice stormy picture for areas around Brisbane late this afternoon and up into the Sunshine Coast tonight and also Wide Bay in the early hours of tomorrow morning. The picture on the left here shows the current radar situation through Weatherzone Layers and I've drawn some boxes and circles using my "awesome" Microsoft Paint skills to show where in my opinion could see the best action today and tonight. There are a few subtle differences between models... The GFS model is favouring the southern areas of Southeast QLD and also far Northeastern NSW around Boonah/Beaudesert in QLD and Casino/Kyogle in NSW and I've shown this on the right image which is an output called Total Totals. The Total Totals index shows where the atmosphere is most unstable this afternoon in terms of mid level cooling. That means that these areas cool the quickest with height, and if we can get some sunshine and heating around these areas this morning before the thickest cloud moves in, we could see active storms develop in this area. The Access model is leaning towards more the Brisbane area itself and areas northwards towards the Sunshine Coast from about 4pm onwards. At this stage, severe storms look unlikely due to a couple of main things I reckon.. firstly the cloud which should move in close to lunch time could take the edge off the sunshine heating meaning that a night of rain with a bit of thunder would more likely be on the cards... and also secondly because any storms that develop today shouldn't be particularly "Tall". By that I mean the actual storm clouds themselves shouldn't be very high from base to cloud top which could mean that lightning may not be particularly frequent and large hail almost impossible. If there is any severe potential, it would probably be by way of damaging wind gusts, especially if any storms that develop form into a line. Between 5 and 6pm is around the time the models are hinting that the front should move through the Brisbane area and obviously an hour or two earlier for places west of the city. We will be trialing our first Reddit thread today for anyone who wants to talk about the more technical side of things and some in depth analysis. It would be awesome if people get involved in this.. it's completely free and there's no question that's a stupid one.. unless the question is "Will it hit Greenbank"? Because we already know the answer to that one.. (Cam)
New casino to open gates in Brisbane’s Queen Wharf
It's been a while since local authorities started to contemplate the opportunity of allowing a gambling company to erect a casino in Brisbane Queen Wharf. The area could definitely use a massive influx of capital and for many years, there were no investors willing to spend a dime here. On the other hand, local anti-gambling groups are very active and they claim that if a license is granted, the local economy will take a dive rather than surge to new heights. For the time being, the authorities seem to be willing to take a leap of faith and the company that is in pole position right now goes by the name of Crown Resorts. James Packer's company in conjunction with Greenland Holding Group which is based in China made a convincing bid for a casino resort here. The investment is significant and developers plan on building a retail and commercial center, therefore completely changing the aspect of this residential area. Echo Entertainment Group is the other big player willing to invest here and just as the aforementioned company did, they formed a partnership with Chinese ventures. The two casino operators from Australia are well-positioned and both of them seem willing to go to great lengths to establish a permanent position in Brisbane's Queen Wharf. The authorities will analyze both offers and are expected to reach a definitive conclusion by the end of summer. East Asia is another part of the world where gambling companies are willing to spend a lot of money, following the dazzling success of Macau casinos. With licenses being limited in these special administrative region of the People's Republic of China, investors had to look elsewhere for opportunities. South Korea is a great alternative and 20th Century Fox could join existing ventures as the company plans on investing $3.5 billion to complete a massive project by the end of 2018. South Korea residents are prohibited from playing in local casinos, which are frequented by highrollers from China and Japan, and other Asian countries. 20th Century Fox intends to build a huge casino resort featuring a movie theater and numerous dining areas as well as a golf course. Interesting enough, major gambling companies don't have the same interest in investing within borders, with very few of them even considering Atlantic City casinos. On the other hand, foreign operators such as Betfair Casino announced their intention of expanding their presence in the United States, starting with these struggling casinos. from via Casinoreviews

[EVENT]Australia's High Speed Rail Project Moves Forward, Seeks Foreign Expertise
After much discussion and planning, Australia will be embarking on a two-phase project to bring high speed rail to the east coast of Australia. Line 1 will connect Sydney to Melbourne, while Line 2 will connect Sydney to Brisbane. The lines will pass through several major cities along the way, with Line 1 hitting Canberra, Wagga Wagga, Albury-Wodonga, Shepparton, and finally Melbourne, and Line 2 hitting Central Coast, Newcastle, Taree, Port Macquarie, Coff's Harbour, Grafton, Casino, Gold Coast, and Brisbane. Australia has need of a provider of high-speed trains and associated equipment to offer their wares. We seek a minimum speed of 250 km/h but find 350 km/h to be desirable. The entire project is expected to be worth $52 billion, so there are opportunities for other nations to enter into a lucrative contract to provide expertise as well as the engines and cars of the trains. If this is not possible, Australia will look to partner with a nation of known high-speed repute such as Japan or France to develop our own high speed trains. We hope to hear from representatives from other nations soon. [M] Copypasta from last season. Didnt get a chance to actually start construction. If you have high speed rail and I didn't ping you, feel free to post.

If this is not possible, Australia will look to partner with a nation of known high-speed repute such as Japan or France to develop our own high speed trains. We hope to hear from representatives from other nations soon.
